Dating back to June 20, 1930 as a training base for pilots, Randolph AFB is currently home to 12th Flying Training Wing, which is the only unit in the Air Force conducting both pilot instructor training and combat systems officer training. It is further divided into three groups: operations, mission support and medical, which together provide host-base support to more than 30 units. These units, along with the 12th Flying Training Wing, are what make Randolph Air Force Base the Showplace of the Air Force. Within this multiple mission, the 12th Flying Training Wing conducts training for instructor pilots, combat systems officers and introduction to fighter fundamentals student pilot training. It is the only unit that teaches Air Force pilots to be flight instructors for Air Education and Training Command's four undergraduate pilot training bases. Each year, about 350 instructor pilots graduate from the wing's 13-week training course. Using teaching techniques in the aircraft, the simulator and the classroom, trainees learn how to simultaneously fly and instruct.

When driving to Randolph, you will be arriving on two major roads: I-10/Hwy 90 or I-35. There are three gates: The East Gate, West gate and South gate, but only the east main gate has a visitor’s center. Arriving from I-10 or Hwy 90

Randolph Field ISD is located on Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. It consists of Randolph Elementary School for pre-kindergarten students through sixth grade and Randolph Junior/Senior High School for seventh through twelfth grades . All children of military personnel who live in base housing are eligible to attend. The schools are Texas public schools located on federal property and are accredited by the Texas Education Agency.
